Portable Medical Sterilizer

Sterilizer made by Mayer and Meltzer, used to provide a source of boiling water to enable the sterilization of small surgical instruments.

A spirit lamp provides the heat source, water and instruments are placed in the cup above the lamp. The sterilizer collapses so as to fit in the card case.

According to Bennion in "Antique Medical Instruments" Mayer and Meltzer were manufacturing around the 1870s.
