Bench Microtome

Microtome for preparing thin sections of objects for mounting on
microscope slides. The thickness of the specimen is controlled by a
calibrated knob. One turn gives 1mm, smallest division gives 10
microns.

The object is embedded in wax and placed in the central hole, a free
hand knife, usually a cut throat razor, is used to take slices, the screw
is advanced to produce the required thickness.

In mahogany case.

Very similar to the Carl Zeiss design, see "A History of Microtechnique" by Brian Bracegirdle. Made of brass, with lead weighted base and the top is glass
